Clay Community Church – CARES Funded Project

Clay Community Church is a place of worship serving its local community in Glasgow. Alongside regular church services, the building provides space for gatherings and activities that bring people together throughout the week. The church has been exploring practical improvements to reduce running costs and lower its carbon emissions, reflecting a commitment to long‑term sustainability and responsible stewardship of resources.

The project combines rooftop solar PV with battery storage, helping the church move toward cleaner energy while strengthening resilience and supporting continued use of the facility.

System Performance:

Based on the system design simulation, Clay Community Church is expected to achieve:

  • Estimated annual generation: 17.44 MWh
  • Estimated CO₂ savings: 3.37 tonnes per year
  • Equivalent to: approximately 155 trees planted annually

System Overview:

System size: 23.40 kWp

Solar PV panels: 52 × JA Solar 450W
Inverters: 2 × SolarEdge Inverter and optimisers
Battery storage: 2 × SolarEdge Battery
Mounting: Renusol MetaSole

CARES Funding:

This installation was delivered as a CARES funded renewable energy project, supporting the delivery of solar PV and battery storage at a community organisation. By reducing barriers to delivery for community buildings, CARES funding helps local organisations implement practical decarbonisation measures that improve resilience and reduce environmental impact over the long term.

Outcome:

The Clay Community Church project shows how CARES‑supported solar PV and battery storage can be integrated into a community setting in a practical, building‑appropriate way.

By pairing onsite solar generation with battery capacity, the system supports long‑term carbon reduction while helping future‑proof the building. It’s a strong example of community scale sustainability in action: a carefully designed installation that enables lower‑carbon energy, supports operational resilience, and aligns with the values of community stewardship and long‑term responsibility.
