Archerfield Walled Garden is a popular destination in East Lothian, welcoming visitors to its café, shop, market, and family-friendly attractions. With a strong commitment to sustainability and creating a positive visitor experience, the site partnered with Gensource to develop an integrated renewable energy solution that supports both its environmental ambitions and future growth.

The project began with the installation of on-site solar PV, helping the Walled Garden generate its own clean electricity and reduce reliance on grid energy. Building on this success, the project was expanded to include public EV charging facilities, making it easier for visitors travelling by electric vehicle to access the site. As the Charge Point Operator (CPO), Gensource also manages the public EV charging network, ensuring the charging facilities remain operational, accessible, and easy for visitors to use.

Together, these technologies create a connected sustainable energy ecosystem, with locally generated renewable electricity helping to support the site’s growing energy needs. The project highlights the value of collaboration, innovation, and long-term thinking, demonstrating how destination venues can reduce their environmental impact while continuing to enhance their offering for visitors and the wider community.
