Gensource delivered a large-scale, fully integrated solar PV and battery storage system for the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS) on behalf of Clark Contracts. This ambitious project marks a major step forward in expanding renewable energy capacity at the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS), a flagship 11,500 m² carbon-neutral facility within the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District.
Fully commissioned in August 2025, the new ground-mounted solar array, container canopy array and battery storage system build on the site’s existing rooftop installation. Working alongside Clark Contracts, all works were completed with minimal disruption to operations, allowing NMIS to maintain full productivity throughout. The project further reinforces the organisation’s commitment to sustainable manufacturing and low-carbon innovation.
Gensource provided a full design and installation package for a robust ground-mount solution that integrates seamlessly with the existing energy infrastructure. The array includes 266 JA Solar 600 W modules and two SolarEdge 66.6 kW inverters, providing module-level monitoring and optimised performance. Gensource also delivered a bespoke container canopy array system comprising 82 JA Solar 600 W modules mounted on a custom steel frame across 11 storage containers. Extending almost 100 metres, the canopy installation blends naturally into the site, with the containers finished in a RAL colour matched to the main building.
To complete the energy system, Gensource installed a StorTera containerised battery, creating a fully integrated on-site renewable energy solution. The battery forms the final link between the solar arrays, ensuring efficient energy management and long-term operational value.
This project stands as a strong example of how solar and battery storage can work together to deliver meaningful operational and environmental benefits.
