Sustainable energy specialist Gensource has strengthened its residential offering in Scotland with the acquisition of Perth-based Solar Kingdom.
Founded in 2009, Solar Kingdom brings 17 years of continuous experience in domestic solar installations and now operates as part of the Musselburgh-headquartered Gensource Group.
The deal marks Gensource’s first acquisition since the business was established by Josh King and Robert Wilson in late 2022.
As part of the acquisition, all Solar Kingdom jobs and assets have been retained, including its Perth office, significantly expanding Gensource’s operational footprint across Scotland. Solar Kingdom owner Gregor Thake has joined the Gensource board as an executive director and will take on the role of Technical Delivery Director.
The move supports Gensource’s ambition to deliver a fully integrated, end-to-end energy solution for households, as well as larger commercial and public sector projects nationwide.
The acquisition comes at a time of growing concern around household energy costs, with demand for solar panels accelerating sharply since the start of the Iran war. With Solar Kingdom now part of the group, Gensource is better positioned to respond to this rising demand.

Gensource Managing Director Josh King said:
“Solar Kingdom has built a trusted reputation in home energy over many years. Bringing that expertise into the Gensource Group strengthens our ability to deliver high-quality residential solar, storage, EV charging and heat pumps across Scotland, growing the scale of the impact that we can make for all energy users, and their bills.
“We’re not changing what customers value — we’re scaling it. Same trusted team, bigger capability and improved support. By bringing domestic and commercial capability under one group, we can improve coverage, responsiveness and customer support — while keeping the Solar Kingdom experience people trust.”
The two businesses have previously worked together on a number of projects, and Gregor Thake said formalising the partnership was a natural progression.
“Since being first introduced to Gensource, I have been impressed with how they go about their business,” he said. “They have demonstrated they are excellent at what they do and their growing client base is testimony to that.
“When this opportunity came along, it was one I couldn’t ignore. It made complete sense and I’m looking forward to strengthening the offering from Gensource.
“Solar Kingdom customers will continue to be supported through the same channels, with warranties and service obligations unchanged — now with the added backing and resourcing of the wider Gensource Group.”
The acquisition follows a busy period for Gensource, which is widely recognised for its expertise in the energy sector. Recent milestones include relocating to a larger headquarters and launching its charge point operator (CPO) services at Archerfield Walled Garden. Last week, the company was also shortlisted for SME of the Year at the 2026 Midlothian and East Lothian Chamber Business Awards.
